About the Ministry of Justice
The Minister of Justice is a supreme, one-person authority of the governmental administration. The President of the Republic of Poland appoints and dismisses the Minister of Justice at a request of the Prime Minister. An auxiliary body of the Minister is the Ministry of Justice, with a seat in Warsaw at Al. Ujazdowskie 11.
Also the following organizations are subordinate to the Minister of Justice:
- the Central Prison Service Management
- Prof. Jan Sehn Ph.D. Institute of Forensic Expertise in Kraków
- the Judiciary Institute
- the Polish National School of Judiciary and Public Prosecution.
The following authorities operate at the Minister of Justice:
- the Codification Commission of the Civil Law
- the Codification Commission of the Penal Law
- the Main Council for Social Re-adaptation and Support of Sentenced Persons
- Council for Victims of Crime
- Social Council for Alternative Methods of Solving Conflicts and Disputes The Minister of Justice retained the following scope of competence:
- being a member of the Council of Ministers, it co-operates with the President, the Lower (Sejm) and Higher Senate Houses of Parliament of the Republic of Poland
- he signs normative deeds, as well as international treaties, inter-departmental agreements and memoranda of understanding regarding co-operation between the Ministry of Justice and various associations and other organizations
- he signs letters which do not concern international legal relations, addressed to ministers of governments of third countries
- he signs decisions of entrusting judges and prosecutors with managerial positions at the Ministry of Justice
- he signs documents concerning employment of the Political Cabinet workers
- he signs decisions on appointment of persons for positions of presidents and vice presidents of appeal and district courts, as well as on their dismissal from these positions
- he signs decisions on termination of employment relationship with court assessors
- he signs decisions on delegation to judges to serve duties or a given function abroad and on their recall from such delegation
- he signs decisions concerning the appointment of the Curriculum Council of the Polish National School of Judiciary and Public Prosecution and dismissal of its members, as well as appointment, dismissal and suspension in performance of his duties of the Director of the Polish National School of Judiciary and Public Prosecution
